This week was an amazing week!! I am grateful for the opportunity to come to the famous Mayo Clinic for the Wellness and Health Coaching Residency program. I still have 10 more weeks of training before completing all of the coursework and becoming eligible to sit for the National Consortium for Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (NCCHWC) exam in 2017. Of note, information circulated that my class joined about only 1,000 other Mayo trained Health and Wellness coaches in the nation.
It was tremendous to be able to network and form relationships with 20 other participants from around the world. Additionally, I met terrific wellness coaches that are employed at the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center. The facilities were state of the art, having had expansion that was completed in 2014.
According to the Mayo Clinic’s website (mayoclinic.org – Dan Abraham Living Center), the building was named after the founder of SlimFast – Dan Abraham. Mr. Abraham credits the Mayo Clinic with improving his ‘health and performance’. To show his gratitude, Mr. Abraham gave funding to assist in creating a facility that has ‘earned recognition as a national leader among corporate wellness programs’. The week included a cooking course demonstration in the fully capable, on-site kitchen. I was also able to enjoy new types of fitness equipment such as a free ryder bike and a curved treadmill. Exposure to restorative yoga and gentle yoga were also features included in the week’s activities.

Learning skills to better help others accomplish established goals will always be an on-going process for me. However, this program gave an expansive foundation with which to build. In the upcoming weeks, information will be shared in this blog on some of the learning gleaned from Mayo Clinic Wellness and Health Coaching experience.
