Thanksgiving is tomorrow!!! Christmas and New Year’s is just around the corner!!!  Here are some pearls of wisdom as we rush to and fro trying to purchase items, cook, buy gifts on sale and deal with family and friends that can annoy us to no end.

Remember to make a list mentally (least preferred list), on your phone, on a piece of paper or even email a list quickly typed up during down time at work.  Try to categorize your to-do list in groups of convenience, importance, and location. For instance, if you have to shop at two stores on the east side of town be sure to visit them BOTH when you are on that side of town so you won’t waste gas and time.

Try to make your list as complete as possible so you will not regret forgetting any important item.  When it concerns groceries, many stores are having sales. It is prudent to peruse your recipes and check your cupboards and pantries to be sure you have all necessary items prior to heading to the store.

Self care during this time of the year is especially important as stress levels can be at an all time high. Try to wake up earlier to allow yourself ample time in the morning to leisurely take care of needs and to allow your mind to prepare for the day.  Plan your day during this time and gather things or position your day so it will run smoother.  Many do well with meditative practices such as yoga, prayer, devotion, or simply journaling at this time of the day when all is quiet.  Remember to take bubble baths, do your nails, go to bed earlier some evenings, exercise regularly  – all things that help you minimize stress and be your best self.

Finally, I could not end this quick written missive without reminding all of us (me included) to remember to pace yourself with all activities, don’t sweat the small stuff (in the end it may not matter anyway), and try not to over indulge!!! One of the New York Times Blogs states that the average person gains about 7-10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas!!! Try not to sabotage your health efforts done throughout the rest of the year by not controlling your portion sizes and overeating. OR if you must enjoy food you only eat once a year, try to get a small bit of each item and only go back for seconds on the item you enjoyed the most. OR try to exercise that morning by hitting the gym or taking the family out for a neighborhood walk AND try to get in some activities that require moving AFTER dinner instead of vegging out watching tv.

Happy Thanksgiving to you ALL!!!!
