I had the privilege of spending the day with Holly Springs Fire Fighter Joe Harasti. Mr. Harasti has over 15 years of experience teaching CPR/AED training and working as a Fire Fighter. He told me the latest research he’d seen recently indicated ‘only 50% of codes ran were bystander initiated in Wake County’. Although, I was unable to verify the statistic myself, I can state less than 50% of my family and friends have CPR/AED training.

Today I was able to attend the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support Instructor’s course at Johnston Community College in Smithfield. I chose to obtain this instructor status because I have received multiple requests from day care providers and health care providers to provide CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association. Many employers are not accepting American Red Cross certifications although the two courses are very similar and are based on the newest ECC 2015 updates. I am thankful I was able to take this course because I will now be able to ALSO offer the Heartsaver course for Family and Friends, which is a less rigorous CPR/AED certification for non-health field clients. So if you are in need of BLS training or Heartsaver Certification for Family and Friends, contact me soon!
